What Beats What In Poker

Ever wonder what beats what in poker? Well now there is no need to miss out on the action any longer thanks to the What-Beats-What-In-Poker.com guide to What Beats What in Poker?  Wow, that’s a tongue twister!

Once you learn the basics of what beats what in poker you can have a great time playing against friends and pros online, while making a lot of cash. In this article, we'll discuss the basics of what beats what in poker.  On subsequent pages of the site you’ll be able to test your new found knowledge by visiting the best poker games online using no deposit poker bonuses as a way of playing for free.

The Basics: What Beats What In Poker

What beats what in poker is easy enough: The dream hand is the royal straight flush (10-J-Q-K-A, all in the same suit). This is followed by the straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, and on through three of a kind, two pair, one pair and the plain high card.  All of these hands are explained below and assume that no jokers or wild cards are being used in a game.

1. Royal Straight Flush
The dream hand is the royal straight flush which consists of 10-J-Q-K-A, all in the same suit.

2. Straight Flush
Five cards in the same suit and numerical order.  For example, 6-7-8-9-10 of diamonds.

3. Four of a Kind
Four of a kind speaks for itself as it is four of the same card.  For example, 10-10-10-10-9.

4. Full House
A Full House is three of a kind plus a pair. For example Queen-Queen-Queen-King-King or 10-10-10-3-3.

5. Flush
A flush consists of five cards in the same suit but not in strict numerical order.  For example, 3-5-9-Jack-Ace of clubs.

6. Straight
A straight is made up of five cards in a row but not in the same suit.  So an example would be a 5 of diamonds followed by the 6 of clubs, 7 of diamonds, 8 of hearts and 9 of clubs.

7. Three of a Kind
Three of a kind consists of three cards of the same number.  For example, 9-9-9-3-3.

8. Two Pair
Two pair are two pairs of cards of the same number.  An example would be 6-6-Queen-Queen.

9. One Pair
This is where you only have one pair of matching cards like a King and another King.

10. High Card
If you are not able to obtain any of the above card combinations then the best you can show is the highest card in your hand.  If other players in your game are in a similar position then whoever has the highest card wins.  This is why it’s always good to keep hold of an ace card up your sleeve!
