Understanding Three Number Bets in Roulette
Author: Neha Agrawal
Because there are so many bets offered at a
Roulette table
, you might not be familiar with all of them unless you’re an experienced and expert player. Probably everyone understands odd-even and black or red, but do you know what betting a Street is? How about a Basket bet or a Trio bet? These are all options available to the roulette player and if he or she knows how to use them correctly and in conjunction with other bets, you can improve your chances of winning at the
Roulette wheel
.
The Street, Top Line and Trio Bets are all bets that give you three numbers. If any of them come in, you win, and you collect 11-1, which is pretty close to the actual odds. There are 12 lines in total and the only reason that 11-1 isn’t the full odds on these bets is because of the presence of either one or two zeros on the wheel.
European Roulette
has just the single zero, which means a three number bet should pay approximately 11.3, rather than 11-1. On a wheel with both a zero and double zero, the odds are more like 11.6. The zero or especially two zeros are the slight edge that the house has in the game.
A
street bet in Roulette
refers to a sequence of three numbers across a line as they are laying on the felt, (or if you’re playing online, the simulated felt.) There are 12 such rows on the roulette board, all in order: 1, 2, 3 is the first row, 4, 5, 6 is the second and so on.
If you want to place a street bet, you place your chip or chips on the outside of the row you want to bet. Do not place it so far outside that it Is in another bet, such as the “dozens” bets (1-12, etc.) Also, don’t put it all the way into the square of the first number or you won’t be betting the street, just that one number.
Similar to the Street Bet is the
Trio Bet in Roulette
. This is only available on a the European Roulette version. You can choose either 0,1, 2 or 0, 1, 3. Place the chip in the intersection between the numbers you want.
Similar to the Trio is a bet offered on an
American Roulette
wheel which has both 0 and 00. It is called a
Basket bet in Roulette
and with the 00 in the game, there are extra combinations. You can play 0, 1, 2 or 00, 2, 3 or you can play 0, 00, 2. Just place your bets in the right position.
If you’re not familiar with these bets, it’s a good idea to learn them since they pay well and can be used in certain strategies involving other types of bets.
